The kids get really excited when they get to eat breakfast on the TV trays. We have to put about 10 towels underneath them to catch the messes, but it's worth the fun every once in a while.

He really enjoys dunking everything in his drink (champion hotdog eating contest winner in his future?) and mixing things around. This particular morning he was having oatmeal, and we came over to the table to see that he had planted his little turtle toy right in the middle of it.

Thanksgiving was a bust this year. Declan & Finn got sick with the stomach flu on Tuesday (as did at least 7 other kids at daycare). I wasn't feeling great, but thought I had escaped it. Nope, got sick on Thanksgiving evening. Went to Mom & Dad's Friday, then Rowan and Ryan got sick that night. And in the process we took out probably 10 of our family with it too. Sorry! The kids have taken to telling me & Ryan that we are "MEAN!" every time we say no to something. Even Declan says it..."Yuh MEE!"

Rowan decided one day that I was so mean that she wanted to draw a little picture for me about it. The "Memu" at the top is an ill-fated attempt at the word "Mean", but you get the drift. And check out the illustration of me at the bottom! Needless to say, this one did not end up in the scrapbook.

I'm getting a little behind again. It has been a busy couple weeks of photo shoots for me, so that takes up much of my free time. The kids went to Mom & Dad's for an overnight visit a couple weekends ago. I had a couple shoots that Saturday & Sunday so it was great to not have to worry about the kids. Plus they had been begging for about a month to "go to Grandma & Grandpa's to stay overnight and you guys (me & Ryan) need to leave." Well, okay then! When we came to pick them up the kids went out for a bit to hunt & we enjoyed the fall afternoon.

We took the kids to Nanny & Grampy's cabin on Lake Herman for an overnight stay last weekend. It was pretty blustery outside, but we enjoyed a little family time away from home (but not too far). Thanks Dick & Sandy for letting us use the cabin!

Crop Duster

A few weeks ago we were outside on the front deck when a crop duster airplane flew right over the top of our house - like really close to the top of our house! He then made several loops to spray a field across the road. It was quite exciting for the kids. Make sure to watch the video under the "Home Movies" tab, and turn down the volume when the squealing sounds get really loud.

We spent Labor Day at the lake this year, and the kids enjoyed exploring and "driving the boat". Declan is now two for two falling asleep on the boat ride.

Summer Turning to Fall

I haven't had much time to post anything lately - with Rowan starting kindergarten things got even more complicated! Those first couple days the influx of papers and things to sign sent me into a tizzy about getting more organized, so we (I) tried to come up with a little better system in the entry/mudroom - complete with whiteboards and calendars and cubbies for everything. We'll see if that helps at all! We have also moved to a daycare in Dell Rapids, which is going well so far, so that helps somewhat with only doing one stop and being closer to home. Rowan really likes kindergarten and has been bring home all of her work each day to show off what she's learning. Here are a few photos from the end of August/beginning of September - the park, campfires and making a bird feeder. Starting to feel like fall & I love it!

Rowan and I had a special photo shoot right before she went to kindergarten. She loves getting her picture taken and is quite the model for me! She has great ideas on where she wants to stand and what she wants in the background - what a creative girl! We went to about 5 different locations around Dell Rapids, and she was a trooper to change into so many outfits. She is growing up so fast, so I feel lucky to capture her right now as she moves onto the big milestone of starting school. Again, these are just a few of them...I hope to post more later when I have a chance to edit them!

Now that I'm a photographer I feel like I can take my own kid's photos whenever I want to because I can actually afford to do it! These are several from my shoot with Finnian shortly after his 4th birthday. I still have to go through many of them, since they kind of get pushed to the back when I have paying client's photos to edit. But I love these of Finn. He is very difficult to photograph because he feels that he needs to give you the "fake" smile or maybe not even look at you at all. But on our little photo shoot he was a treat - it was just me and him, so that made it special, and he kept yelling "I'm 4!" and "I look so handsome!" I was so proud of him for actually wearing his "handsome" clothes for me. I love this little boy so much.

My Kindergartner

Rowan is a kindergartner! Finally...we have only been talking about it for about 2 years! She did great. The first few photos here are from the open house the night before school started. Finn had a rough time. He wanted to go too and spent the entire time crying because he didn't have a desk with his name on it :'(

The first day of school went very smoothly. I dropped her off in her classroom and she went right to playing with the blocks at her desk. I told her I was going to go and she was like, "okay mom, see you later" - aka, get outta here already mom! I was happy that this was the way that it went...much better than tears. It was rough on me though. Childhood is OVER! I want a do-over! No, she's ready, and she will learn a ton and make lots of new friends. It will be very good for her.

The kids like to play "swimming pool" in the house by getting in their suits and jumping off various pieces of furniture into a pool of pillows and blankets. Last night they got a kick out of me trying to take their picture in mid-air doing their diving tricks.

First Haircut

Typically the "First Haircut" photo would be of a 1-yr-old, but believe it or not, the kids have never been to a hair salon to get their hair cut until about a month ago! Here they are at Stewart's School getting their first "real" haircut (forgive the crappy cell phone pics). Finn even made it through most of it...though at one point he decided he was done and just hopped down. I ended up doing the trimming around the ears later at home, but I thought that was pretty good for him.

Grandma & Grandpa Week

The kids stayed at Grandma & Grandpa's house for a WHOLE WEEK. Our daycare person, Michelle, took a family vacation, so we were out of daycare for a week - thankfully Mom & Dad offered so that we wouldn't have to pay double-daycare. THANK YOU! And of course the kids LOVE to go there. You'd think it would've been a nice relaxing week for me and Ryan, but alas, we still had work and I had two evening photo shoots.

Oh, and our septic system backed up into our house AGAIN, so we carried over a hundred pails of disgusting water out of the basement and ended up ripping out sheetrock, doors, and the carpet we just installed! But, I digress. Thank goodness the kids were at G&G's for that part! Here are a few pics of the kids the day we dropped them off for their week's stay - and the very cute baby kitties.

My sweet little Finn is four. We had a birthday party on his big day, and it was pretty darn hot (as I think it might be every year on his birthday). The picture below of him in the Darth Vader costume cracks me up because it was so ridiculously hot and he's running around in this black costume!

He got lots of superheros, transformers, Cars toys...everything he wanted. Finn tells me that even though he's getting to be a big boy I can still call him "my baby sweet cheeks" (after his chubby little newborn cheeks that I loved so much). I will probably call him that when he's a grown man. Here are some pics from his party.

Dell Rapids Quarry Days

Ah, small town fun. We went to some of the events at Dell Rapids Quarry Days. Ryan, Rowan and Finn went to the parade on Saturday (I stayed home with Declan, who desperately needed a nap). Sunday we went on the LG Everist train and through the cars and tractors on display at the park. Fun was had by all.

Summer, Kind of

Despite the temps only in the upper 70's (which I LOVE actually - summer heat really doesn't even need to come this year), the kids have been getting outside to play and swim. We're trying to have campfires whenever the wind isn't blasting. The other night one of chairs took a dive into the fire and completely melted. Whoops.

Ryan and I had a chance to take a little vacation a couple weeks ago. It has been a LONG time since we've gone anywhere - I'm pretty sure the last long weekend was in May of 2009. Grandma & Grandpa watched the kids, and we headed up to my grandma's house in Ashland, WI, which is right on Lake Superior. The weather was crummy, but we still enjoyed eating out, getting coffee, watching movies and trying to relax for once since we didn't have anyone else to worry about!

Rowan & Finn spent the mornings last week at Gloria Dei Bible School with the other kids from daycare. This was Rowan's 3rd year and Finn's 2nd. Rowan was quite the singer - she knew all the moves too. Finn, well, Finn got a teensy bit distracted and wandered around through most of the program...he eventually found Rowan and stood by her. But they both did a great job and we were very proud of how brave they were!

We went to Nanny & Grampy's lake cabin for Memorial Day, and the kids were very excited to go fishing. They have been casting their lines in the driveway for about a month now, so it was nice to do it for real. They even dug up their own worms in the yard before we left.

It takes a fair amount of patience, but we made butterscotch rice krispie bars with the kids last weekend and Declan helped me make strawberry-rhubarb crisp. Hey, they're eager for summer. So am I.

The kids LOVE wearing their pajamas, so if you're ever at a loss for a gift for them, that would make them happy. And pairing it with a hat is a popular option as well. Also in this pic, new bedding! A very big deal for us since we've had our old red bedding for, oh, eight years? The sheets were splitting open. We decided to paint the (red) master bathroom to match as well. What a Week!

Wow, last week was one for the books. Declan got sick first on Saturday, the 2nd. I stayed home with him Monday. I reported to jury duty Tuesday morning and was selected to be on the panel for a criminal trial involving charges of assault and false imprisonment. So that was pretty much my life for three days. And Ryan's life for those three days was cleaning up puke and diarrhea.

Rowan even got hit with it this time. She started throwing up about 3 hours before she and I were supposed to see "Beauty and the Beast" at the Washington Pavilion with Nanny and all the other girl cousins. So very, very sad for her indeed. We almost risked it and went, but it's a good thing we didn't because she got sick several more times that night.

The kids finally went back to daycare on Friday (and we finally went to work). Finn is still sick today, home with Ryan. Since this is our second bout with this kind of gunk in about a month, it has been pretty trying. But, spring is coming, and we are hoping that after all the bleaching we did this weekend we can get this bug out of our house!

So, there is my explanation for a lack of entries. I have taken a lot of pictures (of the good parts) of the last couple weeks, so I'll post more when I have the time!

Grandma got the kids cameras for Christmas, so they have a good time taking pictures like mommy. Finn has a little trouble getting his fingers out of the way, so we have a lot of black images, but hey, that's what practice is for.

Never too early to start good dental health habits I guess! Declan's Dr. said we should start brushing his teeth (probably were supposed to start months ago). He really likes the bubble gum flavor and gets quite upset when we try to take the toothbrush away.
